A journey as a doctoral student between 2017 and 2020. I keep these posts because, looking back from my early days, I can see how much my perspectives have shifted as a reminder of the learning journey.

Week 166: Need to rest
I’ve been making further revisions to Chapters 4 and 5. These two largest chapters of my thesis have hindered me from moving on to editing the other chapters. There’s so much left to do, and everything seems to be going back and forth, making me wonder if I am making progress or not. On the read more

Weeks 164 and 165: Completion of Chapter 4
I’ve completed editing Chapter 4. At 15,000 words, it is the second-largest chapter of my thesis. The discussion is the closing argument read more

Weeks 155 and 156: Wrap up of the third year of my PhD
My resolution for 2019 was to submit my thesis in December. This didn’t materialise, but I’ve reached a stage where almost all the draft chapters are done. For the next few months, I’ll be editing the first draft of my thesis, which is already a great achievement for me. Nine things I achieved this read more

Weeks 153 and 154: Chapter six is done
I am writing this post at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, waiting to board my flight to Tokyo. I’m heading off for a week’s holiday in Japan. On Wednesday, I taught my last lesson for the term, and on Tuesday, I completed my draft of Chapter 6 and sent it to my supervisors. It’s a great relief to read more
