  • Coffee and cake after intolerance

In April, I was shocked when I found out the result of my blood test for food intolerance. I got the highest level of intolerance for milk and the second-highest level for eggs, barley, and yeast. The test looks at IgG antibodies in the blood; an increase in IgG to a certain food indicates intolerance read more

  • Benedicts, Norwich

One Saturday in March, Luca and I had lunch at the popular local restaurant, Benedicts. Benedicts is a nice, cosy restaurant serving modern British cuisine. Based in Norwich, England, the restaurant opened back in 2015, and, according to some reviews, the chef has been winning multiple food-related awards since then. His culinary excellence has enhanced read more

Yesterday, I baked Donal Skehan’s Peach and Blueberry Pound Cake! I am moving to a new apartment, and this will be the last cake I bake at this flat, so I wanted to bake something special. The reason why I chose this cake was that by chance I found some ripe peaches at a supermarket. read more

  • Banana, Chocolate & Walnut Bread

Today, I’ve baked Banana Bread with Chocolate and Walnut, using Donal Skehan’s recipe. • Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto

Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto is the most Japanese-style hotel I’ve ever stayed in. It’s beautifully organised and decorated. Since opening in October 2016, it has earned a great reputation in Kyoto. I truly loved the details for the outside, with the wooden main entrance and the Japanese garden. I couldn’t take a photo of the read more

  • Week 101: Analysis and muffin-making

I am writing this post at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and am about to take my flight to Tokyo. I’ll have two weeks’ holiday in Japan and make trips to different cities with my family. The past week has been hectic (end of the semester, data analysis, an interview in London, and packing), but hopefully, I read more

  • Week 100: Conversation analysis and pistachio cake

My PhD diary has reached Week 100! I cannot believe that it’s been two years – the time has gone by so quickly. I’ve written about my activities in research, teaching, and baking every weekend, and I’m now starting the third year of my PhD. As a mini celebration for Week 100, I baked a read more
