I’ve been feeling a bit guilty about not working on my research for the past two weeks.
But one thing I can report is that my paper abstract has been accepted for an international conference taking place in Hong Kong next year – I am going, for sure!
It’s also odd, after I arrive in Tokyo, how quickly I switch back to the way of life I had before moving to Europe. I have been keeping myself busy, meeting people every single day for lunches and dinners outside, and eating too much.
I always get jet lag for a week after flying from the UK to Japan (but very little after travelling from Japan to the UK). But this time, a busy schedule has helped me to maintain my sleeping routine and maximise my activities here. I’ve made non-stop trips, not just around Tokyo but also to Kyoto, Fukuoka, Kumamoto, and Kagoshima.
Japanese restaurant: Ningyocho Imahan
It’s a classic and our all-time favourite Japanese restaurant. Imahan offers different types of Japanese food, and for lunch we ordered their signature bento-style Imahan Lunch Gozen with an appetiser, miso soup, sashimi, and steak. The presentation is so neat and beautiful, and the food is very tasty. That’s why I always take my parents to this place; my dad loves it!

I’ll be flying back to the UK four days after Christmas and will then return to work.
Next week, I’ll wrap up the second year of my PhD and write a reflection on activities and fieldwork during 2018.
My achievements in weeks 102 and 103
