Venice

My first time in Venice was full of meetings with Luca’s family. His mum and cousin picked us up at the airport and took us to the city centre. We parked the car near the train station and walked around the northern area, Cannaregio. The town of Venice is very unique, with small shops, narrow streets, and little bridges standing close together.

The following day, we were invited to lunch with his relatives at their house. I met his great-aunts, cousins and their families. The home-cooked lunch was fantastic! The Italian wine they chose was very nice. I think that people’s very warm welcome and the food are always the best parts of Italian holidays.

On the third day, his mum showed us around the popular sites in Venice, including the city centre area, St Mark’s Basilica, the water taxis and Rialto Bridge. For both lunch and dinner, we had Venetian-style risotto at restaurants near the basilica. I really loved that.

Luca’s great-aunts gave me a beautiful ring that she was wearing, Venetian glass bracelets and local biscuits. It was so great to meet them. I am missing his great-aunts, and I want to see them again. I will have to write a thank you letter to his Venetian family.
